The Fisherman Club House is a true hidden gem we only recently discovered. We’d been hearing about this place from friends and family, and eventhough it’s been open for the past 10 years, we’ve never got around to trying it. The menu had all sorts of traditional chinese dishes, but the specialty here was definitely the seafood.
Lobster, deep fried with garlic. This is definitely one of the house specialties. We had 12 lbs, and this dish took two servers to carry to our table. Very well prepared, and the flavours were incredible.
They separated the roe and steamed it on the side. I really liked how they did this, as I don’t particularly enjoy the roe, but my husband and his family absolutely love it. So it allows them to enjoy easily without having to pick it out of the shells. They also make a great fried rice dish out of this.
This was a gourmet version of one of the most common chinese dishes, sweet and sour pork. The Pork was fried to perfection, and I loved the sauce on the side, keeping the pork chrispy until you were ready to bite.
Sautéed Geoduck with vegetables. While Geoduck is pretty expensive, this is still a fairly common dish, but very well executed here.
Snow pea leaves (shoots), stir fried with garlic. This is one of my all time favourite veggie dishes. I usually love having snow pea shoots sautéed with king mushrooms, but this one was still very tasty.
Boiled free range chicken. This dish is another staple of Chinese cuisine, but with the free range instead of the standard run of the mill chicken. The meat was a bit tougher as expected, but definitely much tastier.
Shelled Dungeness crab, steamed with egg whites. This was another great dish which I really enjoyed. A nice contrast to the heavy, fried, garlicky lobster we had already finished.
The food was fantastic, and definitely came as advertised. But to be clear, the food is the only reason to come here. The service is good, but not great – as they are use to high turnover, and don’t bother showing up without a reservation. My husband says that growing up, this used to be a local donut shop, and the ambiance and decor haven’t changed much since then. If those things matter, this is not the place for you. If all you care about is the food, it’s absolutely fantastic!

There ain’t no such place as Scarborough. It’s in the eastern part of Toronto, if it is in Toronto.
Where is it? An address would be nice. Also a phone numnber if reservations must be made. Eh!
Was this in November last year?
